How to clean out your jar

I am a big fan of sustainability and recycling; I love a good container. If you’re like me, you hate throwing away an adorable candle jar that can be used for so many other things.

I’ve been in the business of recycling candle jars for some time now, and I’ve tried ever technique in the book. They are not created equal! The best way to clean out your candle jar is by pouring boiling water into it.

Step 1: Bring a sauce pan of water to a boil. It should be enough water to fill your jar to about where the wax began when it was new.

Step 2: Pour boiling water into your candle jar

Step 3: Wait. This is the hardest. Sometimes I let it sit on the counter, sometimes I put it in the fridge if I’m impatient.

Step 4: Remove wax, which should now be floating on the top of the water in your jar, back in its solid state.

Step 5: Wash jar with soap and water. If your wick base is still stuck in the bottom, it has usually loosened enough by this point to remove. I sometimes need to use a spoon to pop it off.

Step 6: Remove label. Your white label can be removed, using goo-be-gone for residue. Your clear labels from our Cocktail Candles are water proof.

Optional step to run through dishwasher if you’d like.

After your candle jars are thoroughly cleaned with soap and water they can be used for many different purposes including as drinking glasses and food storage. If you’d like to recycle your empty jars back to me please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at contact@tripledeckercandleco.com.
